As i write this the Virgina City Grand Prix 2007 draws to a close. High Sierra Motorcycle Club had four Riders in this years Race event in four different classes. With the help of a Great pit crew we had a good turnout. The Riders were as follows and the results may not be final nor offical. Pro Class: Chris Kaila -#331 -GasGas -Placed 10th -$150.00 Over 50 amateur: Rick Fuller -#104 -Honda -Placed 9th -Unknown Over 40 amateur: Bob Holmes -#327 -GasGas -Placed 7th -WallPlack Open amateur: Tom Bennett -#312 -Yamaha -Placed 12th -unknown
With the help of the Pit crews of Bob Piper - North Tahoe Motorsports/HSMC, Paul Kettermen and Emily -HSMC, Steve Clair -HSMC, Jerry, and a host of others we pulled off these great finishes.
Other known members at the event were Doug Holcom (HSMC) who was on the Sweep Patrol at the event.
The Laps were about 30 miles, some of the highlights of the event were a Bike (#142) caught fire 200 feet down the starting line which held the event 10 minutes at the 7th row. Lap 1 was fairly easy, passing 25 - 30 riders until Checkpoint 2 where right after i spun out and Chris Kaila Passed by me. There was one broken leg that i know of. On lap 2 saw a group of riders around one guy, it was the crash seen. At lap 2.5 my left foot peg broke off a bit after colliding with a rock. At lap 3 i stopped for Gas and insisted only a partial tank full. Paul Added a splash more for good luck! Lap 4 i passed by a Yamaha Rino carrying out the injured Rider i saw of the previous lap. I came in just under the 4 hour time limit by 5 minutes allowing me a 5th lap. And i'll tell ya i was beat by then. so i stopped on the course and has an energy drink i dug out of my pack, Waisting 5 minutes at the most while wondering if i can continue, remember i had no left foot peg. I continued on and within 15 minutes or so of riding i felt fine again and full of charge passing enough riders (8) to justify my 5 minute break. When i finished the race on lap 5 i ran out of gas on the finish line, that was great gas estimating - Thanks Paul! Tom Bennett made it though lap 5 and had a Flat on the last lap. After the Race there was the awards at the Delta Saloon where i learned of my score - 7th.
